It's Time to Get Uncomfortable

Posted by Larry Linne on Sep 8, 2017 11:33:20 AM

I love September. It is the time of year where people start thinking about planning for the next year. They are back to work after summer, and they are ramped up for the health insurance renewals coming the next few months. It is a time of reflection as well as a time to think about the future.

The past is always a worthy thing to look at and remember. It is something we should look at to appreciate where we have come from and make sure we don’t repeat any bad history. However, I believe we have entered into a business world where the past is less relevant than any time in history. The future has Artificial Intelligence, algorithm driven process for insurance, cultural change, millennial generation decision making, political unrest, and complete uncertainty.

So what will all of this mean? The following thoughts may help you through your reflection and planning for 2018+. I hope it challenges you to become great:

Introducing Insurance "Marketing Mastery"

Posted by Larry Linne on Sep 1, 2017 2:24:25 PM

InCite Performance Group is pleased to announce the formation of “Marketing Mastery” - an invite only group for top-level marketing executives.

With the speed at which information moves, the rapid increase in technologies, and the ever-changing ways to reach the market, there is only one constant - everything is changing... What worked online last year might not work today. That tweet you are about to send has a shelf-life of 1 hour or so. A billboard might actually be a good investment. Google will certainly throw all of us for another loop in a few months, and the list of change goes on and on. The Marketing Mastery participants are already on the leading edge by embracing these changes effectively at their agencies and brokerages. By bringing them together, we will facilitate best-practices both from the digital side as well as the “traditional” side of marketing. This group will help their organizations as well as our membership stay on the leading edge to ensure their marketing strategy is cohesive and consistent no matter what the market throws at them.

Top 8 things to do to get results in 2016

Posted by Larry Linne on Nov 24, 2015 9:49:52 AM

Our industry continues to have new complexities, challenges, and opportunities. I keep remembering private equity wants to own insurance agencies, therefore we must be an awesome business to own!  But, being in a great industry doesn't necessarily make us a great business. We have to do what it takes to maximize our value. Here are my suggestions to help an insurance agency maximize value and get great results in 2016.

Three Reasons Your “Agency Planning” Doesn’t Work

Posted by Larry Linne on Sep 22, 2015 11:12:40 AM

A lot of my attention in 2015 has been on the impact of planning in business.  I have observed different brokerage/agency planning techniques, strategies, and systems. The results have been very disappointing.   Here are my findings:

Agencies are not planning toward their desired purpose.

It seems like every insurance agency has a passionate “vision” or purpose of remaining an independent insurance agency. But, the planning focuses on being better at what they are doing today.  They pick items randomly to work on based on what people would “like to have happen” that year.

Killing Performance Review and Rankings

Posted by Larry Linne on Jul 27, 2015 6:30:00 PM

In big move, Accenture will get rid of annual performance reviews and rankings

This story recently published on The Washington Post. It's nice to see highly corporate organziations moving this direction.

In 1988 I became a manager.  The company was a huge multi billion-dollar organization with very strict performance management systems to follow.  It took me one “annual review” season to determine it was the biggest waste of everyone’s time, including the people being reviewed, as well as my time!

Culture Management - Kill Entitlement with A Partnership

Posted by Larry Linne on Jul 14, 2015 10:43:08 AM

Almost all CEOs will argue they have “the best people”. They will make that claim as one of the top reasons for past, present, and future success.  They will go to great lengths to make life as good as possible for the people of the organization because they truly believe this philosophy. However, this same institution is what typically costs business owners millions of dollars and keeps them from meeting personal goals in ownership.

Stop It to Move Forward!

Posted by Larry Linne on May 12, 2015 6:30:00 AM

It's 2015 and many things have changed in the insurance industry. Our employees have more differences than any time in history. Insurance products are more complex as risks become more complex. Buyer behaviors continue to evolve. Most of all, many old techniques that seem logical and used to work, are no longer effective.
So, we need to stop some stuff and start doing some other things.
